A seminar entitled “Implementation Science for Prevention and Management of Non-Communicable Diseases – Bridging Evidence and Practice” was held at MU–Varna under the MUVE–TEAM project. The scientific forum was targeted at young scientists and post-doctoral researchers, and investigators working in the field of implementing intervention studies for prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs), and was led by Prof. Brian Oldenburg from La Trobe University (Melbourne, Australia).
The prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases is among the leading priorities of modern public health, given their increasing incidence and significant impact on health systems and quality of life. Effectively reducing CNCDs requires not only clinical knowledge but also an integrated approach incorporating behavioural changes, health promotion, and application of digital technologies and evidence-based interventions in real-world settings.
Prof. Brian Oldenburg is a renowned international expert in public health, behavioural medicine, and applied science, a professor at La Trobe University, holding senior positions at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (Melbourne, Australia), while also heading research initiatives of global significance, including a centre of excellence in digital technologies for chronic diseases. His research focuses on prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes, with a particular contribution to the development and implementation of digital (mHealth) solutions for self-monitoring and management of chronic diseases and conditions. He has significantly contributed to the development of the applied aspects of scientific research, playing a key role in translating scientific evidence into effective policies and practices. As the lead author of a WHO monograph dedicated to the applied aspects of research in the control of CNCDs, and as a long-standing consultant to international organisations and governments, Prof. Oldenburg boasts valuable expertise with global relevance and applicability.
