ELPIDA aims at the implementation of a unique research infrastructure based on X-ray imaging that will be dedicated for development, testing and optimisation of advanced imaging techniques for screening and diagnosing the breast. The focus is on the X-ray contrast-enhanced 2D and 3D breast imaging. This infrastructure will serve as a base for the creation of a research centre for breast imaging excellence on the Balkans and will contribute to performing of unique studies in X-ray contrast-enhanced BT, as a technique for assessment of the breast cancer progression, and as a screening method for women with dense breasts. Algorithms and techniques will be optimised through modelling and simulation approaches, as well as, by the use of novel 3D phantoms developed in this laboratory.
