Bioactive compounds of natural origin possess a great potential to combat the burden of chronic non-communicable diseases, that are a major health issue for death cases worldwide, such as cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Bioactive products can complement conventional therapies and be used for prevention, however analysis of their metabolic effects and safety is needed. Our goal is to identify bioactives of natural origin with a potential for control and prophylaxis of metabolic syndrome and related pathologies by monitoring indicative molecular biomarkers. Algorithm for identification of health effects of biologically active products of natural origin as utility model in healthcare and prevention will be proposed. The project combines the efforts of pre-clinical and clinical departments creating a university network and ensures the transfer of knowledge from natural sciences to clinical practice, provides knowledge in support to the development of new functional foods, and promotes the competitiveness of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
