An international symposium entitled “Sleep – A Key to Health, Mind, and Creativity” was held at the Hotel Cherno More in Varna from 19 to 21 March. The event was organised by Medical University–Varna within the framework of Project No. BG-RRP-2.004-0009-C02 "Enhancement of Translational Excellence Achievement in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)", funded by the European Union–NextGenerationEU, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The forum brought together leading specialists from Bulgaria and abroad in the fields of Sleep Medicine, Otorhinolaryngology, and the Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. The programme encompassed lectures and hands-on courses delivered by established international experts from Germany, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Romania, India, Mexico, and other countries.
During the three-day symposium, key and up-to-date topics were discussed, including diagnostics and treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea, modern surgical and therapeutic approaches, the role of myofunctional therapy, the impact of sleep on health and sports, along with multidisciplinary approaches in patients with sleep disorders. The programme featured scientific presentations, practical training sessions, and discussion panels with the participation of international and Bulgarian specialists.
In his congratulatory address to the participants, the Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov, DSc highlighted, "In today’s dynamic world, sleep disorders, and in particular obstructive sleep apnoea, are becoming an increasingly significant medical and public health challenge. Therefore, scientific dialogue, the exchange of knowledge, and interdisciplinary collaboration are of key importance for the advancement of modern sleep medicine."
The international character of that forum was especially valuable, bringing together researchers and clinicians from various countries and scientific schools. For Medical University–Varna, hosting such a prestigious event created opportunities for partnerships among specialists, research institutions, and young researchers. The forum contributed to the exchange of expertise, new ideas, and best practices in the diagnostics and treatment of sleep disorders.
