The forum brought together leading international experts, medical specialists from across the country, patients, and their families to address the current challenges of this rare disease.
The event was organised under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Sonya Galcheva from the Department of Paediatrics at MU–Varna and implemented within the MUVE-TEAM project of MU–Varna, with the support of Endo-ERN. World-renowned specialists in the field of this rare disease were lecturers at the forum, including Khalid Hussain, Klaus Mohnike, Sarah E. Flanagan, Huseyin Demirbilek, Jean-Baptiste Arnoux, and others.
The programme encompassed scientific sessions and discussions covering key topics such as the clinical manifestations of congenital hyperinsulinism, modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment, and the development of new therapeutic options for patients with hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. Special attention was placed on genetic testing in the diagnosis of the disease and to the latest scientific discoveries by the world-leading research team from Exeter, the United Kingdom.
A highlight of the programme was also the application of new technologies, including continuous glucose monitoring systems, and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in patient care.
The event was also a venue for exchange of experience among specialists from different countries, as well as for presenting national practices and challenges in the treatment of the disease. Attention was also given to psychosocial aspects and the impact of the condition on the neuropsychological development of children.
An essential part of the programme was the meeting between families of children with congenital hyperinsulinism and healthcare professionals, which created a platform for dialogue and first-hand experience sharing. Ms Julie Raskin, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Congenital Hyperinsulinism International, also participated in the event, presenting the organisation's activities and international efforts to improve care for patients with congenital hyperinsulinism.
The forum contributed to strengthening international collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of rare diseases, further establishing Varna as a venue for significant scientific and medical events.
