On 12 March, a series of lectures and discussions entitled “Pragmatic Aspects of the Diagnosis and Treatment of Dual Diagnoses" was held in the teaching hall of the Psychiatry Clinic at UMHAT "St. Marina"–Varna.  The event was intended for specialists in Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, and residents at MU–Varna.

The guest lecturer was Prof. Dr. Igor Koutsenok, an internationally recognised expert in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine from the University of California, who visited MU–Varna at the University's invitation.  The lecture and discussions were focused on patients with mental disorders accompanied by the use of psychoactive substances—a group of cases that present significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for clinicians.

Prof. Koutsenok presented different approaches for distinguishing symptoms resulting from psychiatric disorders from those caused or modified by the use of psychoactive substances, as well as strategies for the treatment of comorbid conditions.

The event was organised by the Centre for Medical Pedagogy and Communications at MU–Varna and was implemented within the framework of Project BG-RRP-2.004-0009-C02 “Medical University–Varna: “Enhancement of Translational Excellence Achievement in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)", which aims to strengthen the connection between scientific research and clinical practice.
