Prof. Jason Madan - Director of the Centre for Health Economics at Warwick Medical School (UK) delivered two public academic lectures at MU-Varna on 18 and 19 March. The lectures presented an in-depth analysis of significant issues in the field of Health Economics and Health Policy. The event was implemented under project No BG-RRP-2.004-0009: “Medical University–Varna: Enhancement of Translational Excellence Achievement in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)” - item 3.3. International Cooperation in the Strategic Areas of Higher Education.

On 18 March Prof. Madan delivered a lecture on: Financial Burden of Illness and Health Care Seeking - Understanding and Reducing Catastrophic Health Costs for Patients? On 19 the March the topic was focused on Mental Health and Well-Being:  Do We Underinvest? How Can We Make the Case for Greater Investment?

Each lecture was followed by a 30-minute Q&A session, which provided an opportunity for a profound scientific debate. The lectures was opened to students, lecturers, researchers, professionals and all interested individuals who wish to learn about current challenges in the field of Health Economics and Policy.

Prof. Madan’s Business Card:  The University of Warwick was established in 1965 and is a leading academic centre in the United Kingdom. In 2021 the UK Research Excellence Framework (a British system for assessing the quality of research in higher education institutions) rated 92% of their research as leading or internationally excellent.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University was established in 2000. Prof. Madan is a lecturer in Health Economics at the Department of Clinical Trials and Director of the Centre for Health Economics at the Faculty. Prof. Madan can boast extensive research experience – he has participated in more than 40 international scientific projects and has numerous publications in prestigious scientific journals.

The research interests of the guest lecturer are related to application of economic methods for health technology assessment in the fields of oncology, mental health and tuberculosis.
