On 4 March at the MU-Varna, Dr. Marco Fiore from Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, CNR, Rome, Italy, delivered a lecture on Nutrition, oxidative stress, and brain: insights from plant polyphenols. The event was held under project № BG-RRP-2.004-0009-C02 “Medical University–Varna: Enhancement of Translational Achievements in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)”.

Dr. Marco Fiore received his MS in Natural Sciences in 1986 and MS in Biological Sciences in 1992 from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences from University of Groningen, Netherlands. He has been Researcher at the Institute of Neurobiology and Molecular Medicine, Rome, Italy since 2004.

Dr. Marco Fiore is a member of European Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (ESBRA), Italian Society for Neuroscience (SIN) and Italian Society for the Treatment of Alcoholism and Related Diseases (SITAC). Current research interests include studying the effects of polyphenols extracted from plants in the fine regulation of brain neurotrophic factors and in the toxicity induced by alcohol consumption.

Dr. Marco Fiore has published over 120 research articles in refereed international journals. He is in the Editorial Boards of Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, and Immunology, Endocrine and Metabolic Agents in Medicinal Chemistry.
