Between 20-24 May scientists from Medical University–Varna participated in the 26th International Scientific Conference "Achievements in Mechanical and Materials Engineering AMME & bio 2024". The Conference was dedicated to the new trends in the development of bioengineering, as well as the creation, research and application of new materials in general and dental medicine, and biopolymer coatings for waste-free technologies in the production of food products and additives.

The event was organised by the World Academy of Materials and Mechanical Engineering (WAMME) and the ASKLEPIOS Medical and Dental Engineering Centre in Gliwice (Poland). Scientists from 18 countries from all continents presented the results of their research.

The group from Bulgaria was the largest and comprised five representatives of the Faculties of Dental Medicine, Medicine and Pharmacy at Medical University–Varna. Their participation at the Conference was under the project BG-RRP-2.004-0009-C02 Enhancement of Translational Excellence Achievement in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM), funded by the European Union–NextGenerationEU. Three presentation were delivered by the representatives of Scientific Group 3.1.4. PersIm – by Prof. Tsanka Dikova – Head, Chief Assist. Prof. Ivaylo Parushev – Senior Fellow and Assist. Prof. Dr. Petar Valchanov – Post-doctoral Fellow, and from Scientific Group 3.1.2. SMART, a presentation was made by   the Head of the group Prof. Krastena Nikolova. Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Preslav Penchev participated with a poster on behalf of the Faculty of Dental Medicine. They presented the outcomes of their research in the application of 3D printing technologies for manufacturing dental structures made of alloys and plastics and for planning surgical interventions in orthopaedics, as well as creating films of chitosan containing clove essential oil.

Prof. Tsanka Dikova and Prof. Krastena Nikolova were involved in the Management and Research Committees of the Conference. They also had an active role as chairpersons of individual scientific sessions.

During the Conference, the World Academy of Materials and Mechanical Engineering conferred honorary awards on distinguished scientists from different countries. Prof. Tsanka Dikova was awarded the Golden Owl in the name of Prof. Frédéric Straub for her outstanding contributions to the international cooperation and especially to the collaboration with the scientific community of Poland.
